The Army of Watanabe
Wed Oct 11, 2023 2:54 pm
NAME: Watanabe
KANJI: 渡辺
NAME MEANING: To cross over a river
CLAN SYMBOL:
LOCATION: Formerly Watanabe Prefecture in the Land of Iron
CURRENT CLAN HEAD: Moritsuna Watanabe
HEIGHT & WEIGHT: 7'1" 284 lbs
APPEARANCE: Most members of the clan have black hair, yellow eyes, and tend to be quite tall. They tend to wear the clan colors of white, pink, light blue, and light purple. They stick to traditional kimono and other robes when not in armor. The clan generally looks overly serious or even angry as a baseline.
HISTORY: The Watanabe Clan were the favored retainers to the Daimyo of the Land of Iron. They held the vast swathes of land to the south of Iron known as the Watanabe prefecture and ruled over Watanabe Town as its most prestigious family. They provided essential military might to the surrounding regions as the second largest standing army of Iron after the Minamoto Clan. A master stroke of a plan by Damagakure forces led to the current head of the Watanabe to send a majority of their forces to aid in the battles to the north, and in one night, they came through Watanabe Town and slaughtered every member they could find. In total, over 80 ranking members were murdered, including the head of the clan, his wife, and all but the youngest of their eight children. The remaining 36 members, including the four year old Asami and her uncle and current head of the clan Moritsuna, would work their way through the Land of Iron for over 6 years before an opportunity arose and they could escape out the southern border. This cost them a further 19 members. They have spent the last 4 years attempting to drum up support and allies, as well as train up the young Asami with the hopes to one day reclaim their ancestral lands.
Their forces currently consist of 108 ronin and mercenaries from The Land of This.
