THE BLOOD OF THE SAND CLAN

"We shall all return to sand..."

CLAN NAME: Blood of the Sand

KANJI: 砂の血

MEANING: Blood of the Sand

LOCATION: Land of Wind 風の国, Kaze no Kuni

CURRENT CLAN HEAD: “Master Builder” (The eldest member of the blood of the sand)

HISTORY OF THE CLAN
The harsh winds blew over the desert. This particular sand storm was harsher than the ones the traveling tribe has experienced before. The gails and grit swirled around the weary travelers like flies on a fresh carcass. The tribe’s leader, Jakta, led his people through the sand. He knew that his people were getting weary, the women and children especially so. There seemed to be no end in sight…
There was a sudden gash in the sand storm. As if a mountain was miraculously erected in the never ending dunes of the land of Wind. Jakta brought his caravan and found a small cave to wait out the winds. Jakta got everyone settled before he began to feel the ground tremble beneath him. Through the moonlight he saw a figure get ever closer. He had assumed it was pretty close but the figure grew evermore in size. The large beast with one tail could be heard cackling as he approached the cave with Jakta’s clan. He knew he must do something to prevent this creature from crushing everyone here. He made his way to the mouth of the cave. The storm became more powerful as Shukaku made his way closer.
He put out his hands in a defensive position as if he attempted to cover the cave entrance with his body. He called out to the beast, ordering him to stop and leave his people be. Shukaku cackled and demanded Jakta to give him any reason why he should not just kill him and everyone who hides from him. Jakta didn't have much to offer him. In a desperate attempt to appease the beast, he pulled out a small bag that held his last morsel of beef he had cooked. Shukaku began howling hysterically but eventually decided to humor this man who clearly had enough gumption to stand up to a tailed beast. Shukaku ate the piece of meat. He began raving up and down about how delicious the piece of meat was. He promised him that if he continued to cook him food he would protect his people.
Jakta began to cook for him to appease him, but soon the two became close. Shukaku began to teach Jakta the ways of sand manipulation. Soon, the entire clan slowly began gaining the kekkai genkai from coexisting with Shukaku. This time of tranquility for the blossoming clan would not last, though. The clan itself was one of peace, but this became their ruination. A band of marauders raided their camp in the middle of the night. They did not stand a chance. Shukaku, their protector, was not with them when the marauders attacked. Jakta tried to defend the clan but was bested. With his last ounce of strength, he encapsulated his son and only heir, who was no older than 6, in a protective sand orb. Jakta: “The First Wind '' is dead. The bandits attempted to crack the orb to no avail.
In the morning, Shukaku came back to where the clan once rested. He came to a gruesome scene with no survivors. Before he turned to leave, he could hear the muffled cries of Shakta. He cracked the orb and allowed Jakta’s son to be freed. In lieu of seeing his father and clan slaughtered, Shakta created a sandstorm from the rage inside him, one as strong as the one tailed beast. The sand around him began to turn red from the blood of the soaked sand around Shakta. From that moment on, when he would manipulate sand, it would turn a crimson red. Shakta vowed revenge against those who slaughtered his kin. He pushed forward until he found where the bandits set up camp for the night. He brewed up a thick crimson sand storm. The marauders choked to death from the storm in only a few minutes. Shakta walked through the camp, passing his fresh kills and collecting things that he could use to survive. On the body of the leader, Shakta found a red horned owl mask and a red scarf. He traveled the desert, laying waste to everyone he came across.
During his late adolescence, he came across a camp which had some prisoners. He laid waste to the camp. He found no need in killing these prisoners, although he has had no problem killing innocents before. To him, this felt different. He opened the cages to let them free. All of them ran out… in part to embrace their new found freedom and the other part in fear of the man who came to free them. Shakta turned to leave and he was suddenly stopped by an embrace from behind. He looked behind and found a girl to what he assumed to be a similar age hugging him from behind. A girl by the name of Sonmina. Shakta shoved her off. She got back up and explained that she would not be alive without him so she will do anything for him. He tried to leave but she followed.
Eventually, Sonmina’s presence became less and less of a nuisance to Shakta. She was a formidable puppet master who tinkered her vast collection to perfection. The duo soon had their first child. Her and the subsequent 9 children became known as the deadly ten. One eldest sister and 9 boys all trained to hone their sand manipulation and puppet mastery skills. With the clan beginning to grow, and Shakta’s heart becoming less cold from his new family, he turned his sights from senseless killing to becoming a mercenary for different lands and an assassin for hire. When their kids became of age, they too carried the roll of assassins and mercenaries for hire. They became known for their ruthless efficiency. The family all began to wear masks in public and the red horned owl mask became known and feared not only across the land of wind but any land that hired them. They have been said to never fail a mission.
Shakta began writing down the clan's history, rules and jutsu all in one large tome. In his spare time, one of the deadly 10 started to sculpt sandstone statues. With some practice, he began using them as pseudo puppets. Eventually , he began using his chakra to give these statues autonomy. The statues were now able to perform simple tasks without direct control from the user. This became invaluable during times of combat. The bloodline continued to grow and expand their collective knowledge of jutsu and puppetry. When Shakta passed away, Sonmina took the helm as the next strongest in the clan. Every subsequent leader was given to the strongest and most deadly ninja. Although they never fought against each other. Shakta’s dying wish was to have the clan protect one another. He never wanted anyone in his bloodline to experience what he endured as a young child.
Aside from being master assassins and some of the feared shinobi in the ninja world, they were also known as artisans and builders. For those who were unable to fight, they would build just about anything from sand and sandstone. It is said that in a secret location, The blood of the sand clan created a massive underground structure that holds tombs of every member plus all of the secrets the clan has developed. Including a written language only understood by them. This structure is being protected by thousands of sandstone soldiers who have the task of protecting the secrets and the dead. It is said that only the blood of the sand members can enter without being attacked by the soldiers. Their task will last an eternity.
During the creation of the village hidden in the sand, the blood of the sand clan were contracted to build the village with their sand manipulation. The entire clan assisted with this process. As time passed, the clan began enjoying focusing on building and became attached to the sand village. The leader at the time, Broktar, made a decision that would change the trajectory for the bloodline forever. He gathered the clan entirely one night and proposed that since times were changing maybe they should as well. He presented the idea to renounce their shinobi ways and to focus on being the sand village masons and artisans. They would settle down and be the protectors of the village and maintain their work done with the structures. The clan collectively agreed to transition from the “blood of the sand” to the “builders.” They traded in their black armor for a white robe. They also swapped their iconic owl mask for a mask with no face. The face had inscribed The word for “builders” in the secret language they used.
When the race for tailed beasts began to arise between the nations, the village hidden in the sand wanted to capture Shukaku. During the meetings by the Kazekage and his advisors, the representative of the Builders protested heavily. A being that granted them his powers should not be captured or used as a weapon. Ultimately, the kazekage and the bulk of his advisors agreed that they needed Shukaku to stay relevant. In protest, the builders did not assist with the capture of the one tailed beast.
The village was stricken with internal strife. The builders attempted to stay out of the political realm since their primary purpose was to keep the infrastructure in tack. During the 3rd great ninja war, to the dismay of the villagers and the clan, internal conflict mixed with the war caused the end of the hidden sand village. Due to this, all of the Blood of the sand lineage were displaced. Some chose to roam the deserts, some fought and failed to protect their home and others became refugees in neighboring lands. The stories of infamy and glory slowly faded after the fracture of the sand village…
