MEANING: A PLACE WHERE FIRE IS LIKELY TO BREAK OUT; POSSIBLE CAUSE OF A FIRE

HISTORY OF THE CLAN
Some 800 years before the formation of the Hidden Leaf Village, the Hinomoto clan was formed by a great man known as Fusa Hinomoto. Seeking to create a great nation, he and his clan joined hands with many other families to set about founding what would become the Land of Fire. With the family's trait of prodigious regeneration and healing, they served the fledgling land well as inexorable warriors fighting off and rooting out it's enemies.
Over time the Hinomoto clan won respect and admiration from it's peers and Fusa himself became a member of the council which would determine the principles the Land of Fire would pride itself on. A nation needs defenders, however, and once again the Hinomoto clan would find itself set to work in the fields of battle.
For the first 40 years of it's life, the Land of Fire depending in part on the Hinomoto to break apart rebellion after rebellion, incursion after incursion, and invasion after invasion. The years of the Warring States Period dragged on, eventually culminating in a battle against the Cult of Jashin. The Jashin priests techniques proved worthless against the Hinomoto, and one by one they were destroyed until nothing but a group of 4 remained, their backs against a proverbial wall. It was those 4 that would mark the Hinomoto clan for centuries to come.
A hateful and disturbing ritual was performed by the 4, and when Fusa found their bodies, twisted and mutilated in strange ways, it filled him with a heavy dread. Organs, blood, and body parts in odd formations of seal covered the temple and when he and his group entered, the curse flared to life and took root in their bodies. The Jashin believe they must kill their neighbor. To kill someone is to show their appreciation. For a clan they hated, death would not do.
Death would not be given. Since then, no Hinomoto has died, though each would wish they had.
It started simple, though no less terrible on it's own, with each Hinomoto developing bleeding tears in their palms that would not heal. Then an unnatural pain would wrack their bodies, coming in waves that would render the weaker in the family unconscious. And further still the bleeding would worsen day after day. Developing the side effects of chronic blood-loss, skin lesions, pale skin, sickly pale skin, ulcerations, and cancers. Other clans began pushing the Hinomoto away, fearing what they were seeing. Fusa did his best to curb their fears until the final cost of the curse reared it's head. One day, Fusa simply stopped moving. His body shriveled into a husk, no longer replacing lost blood fast enough, looking dead save for the desperate life evident in his eyes. Fearing their fate would spread, the Land of Fire drove every member of the Hinomoto from their lands, scrubbing them from it's records.
Fleeing from their home, the clan wandered listlessly for a further decade, losing some to a living death as they went, abandoning their bodies as they went on their way. They would eventually find their home under the Land of Lightning.
The Land of Lightning would use the clan once again as useful troops and would work with them to study the effects of the curse. Through this they learned much of what had been done to them. All chakra had been ripped from their body and forced into their marrow, severely increasing blood production. They learned how to control and shape the blood into weapons. How to interlace it with their muscles and ligaments to strengthen themselves. And how it could pass between people. It was revealed that the name Hinomoto was cursed itself. All born into it and all that married into it would come to bear the curse.
Understanding this, but unwilling to let a weapon go, the Land of Lightning would institute harsh requirements on the clan. The daimyo himself would decide who would have children, who would marry and whom they would marry. Over many years the clan would grow and shrink heavily to meet the needs of the country and whatever shifting moralities the daimyo of the time held. Eventually we come to today, wherein a single line of Hinomoto live. 2 parents and 3 children are all that is currently active, though some several thousand live in a kind of purgatory.
The Hinomoto currently technically reside in Kumogakure itself, but they are generally always on some mission or another. Out of necessity, the Land of Lightning has even erected a village for the husked members to call home known as Hakagakure, the Hidden Grave Village. Only the Hinomoto clan can safely enter this village in the middle of the Land of Lightning's desert border with the Land of Frost, as the dead yet living rend blood from flesh that draws near.
The clan believes it's only release can come from Jashin priests, and so each member searches the world for any signs of the cult.

NOTABLE MEMBERS
FUSA HINOMOTO: The first of the clan and the ancestor of everyone currently active. His husk has never been recovered.
JIYU HINOMOTO: Great grandfather of the current generation. His husk is kept dead center of Hakagakure as anybody, even other Hinomoto, that gets within 300 feet of him will experience rapid and often explosive blood loss. It was quite difficult moving his body to where it is now.
RAIJUN HINOMOTO: Grandfather of the current generation. Somehow retained regular chakra despite the curse. His body was never recovered.
HISAKO HINOMOTO: Grandmother of the current generation. She could make people sick to varying degrees through some means she kept secret. Her body was lost alongside Raijun's.
ACTIVE MEMBERS
AKARU HINOMOTO: Current head of the clan and mother of the current generation. Known as Death in Crimson, her specialty of extra Water Release allows her access to a veritable ocean of blood she houses in an extra dimension. Though often hard-headed and flighty, she's a kind person that cares greatly for her children. Respects Yu, but there is no love between them.
YU HINOMOTO: Father of the current generation and married into the clan. His specialty of Yin Release allows him to use any Kekkai Genkai if he can get his hands on the blood of those that have one. He's an ambitious and power hungry man that believes he deserves the world. The daimyo attempted to control his aspirations with this arranged marriage, but it only made Yu more convinced of his greatness. Is truly proud of his children and wants you to know about them. Respects Akaru, but there is no love between them.
ICHIRO HINOMOTO: First son of the previous generation. He is an excitable idealist that loves theorizing about the clan's Kekkai Genkai. His specialty of Yang Release gives him incredible healing talent, allowing him to knit other's bones and organs back together letting them bounce back from wounds they'd otherwise have no hope recovering from. Has a competitive streak with his sister and worries constantly about Genjiro.
YUUMEI HINOMOTO: First and only daughter of the previous generation. She inherited some of the best and worst parts of both her parents personalities with the addition of a manipulative streak a mile wide. Her specialty of Earth Release has given her blood incredible hardening abilities in addition to being able to control other peoples blood when she's within 5 feet of them, no open wounds needed. She returns much of Ichiro's rivalry, though mostly to push him to come up with crazy stuff. Babies Genjiro when he's around because she's completely convinced he'll find a way to end up dead in a ditch somewhere, curse be damned.

CLAN TRAITS
HAIR: All born members of the clan have black hair.
EYES: All members, born and married, have blood red eyes.
BUILD: Each member learns to store blood in gaps between their musculature and look generally bulkier because of this, though not by much.
KEKKAI GENKAI
汚れた手 ("kegaretate" meaning: Blood-stained Palm; Dirty Palm) A deep rooted curse that causes the bearer to bleed from tears in the palms of their hands. Users of this ability can control any blood exposed to the air within 10 feet of them both as a liquid and as a solid by way of extreme coagulation. Each member is born with an additional elemental affinity that gives them unique specialties and abilities. This gekkai genkai falls under Water and Yang Release.
